Squirrel (The best photo I've ever taken)

I think this is the best photo I've ever taken. I've really gotta thank my subject for how it came to be. I took a bunch of these, some failed badly, some worked better. Look at that tiny face. Keeping eye on the short paparazzi and her tall friend while eating as fast as possible. And the paws, the fur, the tail and the pink nipples on the soft tummy. The squirrel stayed, fortunately for me on that branch for a while. The other squirrels (there was a bunch) weren't as photogenic. Or I wasn't fast enough to capture their fast paced essence.

Stones in my pockets

Jamie from A Pair of Pears wrote about rocks on Dearest Nature Blog. Her reminiscing of childhood reminded me of how my pockets used to be filled with small stones. It wasn't that sort of collecting where you find certain types of stones and file them meticulously with the type and the place. It wasn't anything close to that pro. I was picking the pretty stones. Any piece of rock that would satisfy my young sense of aesthetics I would pick up an put into my pocket. Shine, interesting colors, a smooth surface or a curious shape would suffice. My dad still jokes about how I filled my poc...

There's no shame in not affording it

Last year I started to do something a little bit evil. I begun to make certain people uncomfortable by talking about money and especially about how I can't afford everything. I've found their reaction entertaining. I'd started to notice how they get really twitchy and scared when someone says they can't afford something. Or that something was way too expensive. Like it would be somehow embarrassing not being dirty rich. Actually all of us have something we cannot afford. Even wealthy people and countries cannot buy everything. And that's good. If someone could go and purchase all and anyth...

Why is support more important than "constructive" criticism?

Here's a thing about constructive criticism: Most of the time it's not constructive at all. Giving criticism without sounding arrogant all-knowing-asshole takes skill and most of us don't have it. When most think they are being constructive they end up being nothing but destructive. Being all "honest" and pointing out the mistakes or things that need improvement results in tearing apart, instead of building on. It's not honest, it's just rude. See, constructive means building on, not tearing down. To be truly constructive the criticism should be able to enhance the good qualities, i...

Que queue?

Queueing is a form of art. Or at least it's mighty difficult to most people. Today, at a clothing store, I was in a line waiting to get to the fitting room. There were two girls before me and two after at that point. The shop assistant had been busy in getting people in and out from the booths. She was coming just back from getting someone in as a girl in her twenties waltzed pass the line. The shop assistant asked the girl if she was coming to fit clothes. She answered yes and mumbled something about not knowing if she had to queue or not. I could only think: "Yeah, you idiot! What in t...

Seeing purple and other colors

What's the attraction of all the purple, plum and violet? Lately I've been seeing lots of people wearing something purple: Scarfs, bags, shoes and jackets. There was a tiny dog attached to purple leash and wearing a purple harness. Some lady was wearing snazzy plum colored rubberboots (with a skirt). Is this some fashion thing? Basically I know why purple is associated with royalty and nobility. I just don't see it. In anywhere else but nature the shades of purple are pretty boring. During a sunset, when the sky goes peach, pink, purple and violet, it's beautiful. Purple and violet...

Custom iPhone 4S Barely There case from Case-Mate

So far my iPhone 4S has been caseless. I've been carrying it around in a small pouch by Golla. The pouch has a couple of problems though: It's slow (and loud) to open and headphone jack doesn't fit in it well. For quite a while I've been dreaming about a Custom case by Case-Mate. Unfortunately it took me a good while to create a design I was completely happy with. Finally I came up with an idea of cute hot air balloons on sky. Case-Mate offers a couple of different types of cases for several different devices to choose from. I chose a basic Barely There case. The designing process...
