Hello,
I'm Mervi Eskelinen!
An artist, nerd and sorcerer, dedicated to make world softer and better for everyone, and to get you to make more art. Make art, change the world!
I took a little blogging break. It wasn't exactly planned, more like it happened. And starting to blog again after a break isn't easy. How am I getting back in blogging shape?
To start with blogging again, I recommend checking out my best tips on how to keep on blogging. To follow my own advice, I'm back with my three times a week schedule, I have re-established Shared Spaces series and I've been reading a lot (and a lot). Good, that's done.
The next step is to write more again. I haven't been writing that much during my break. Reading, yes. Writing, not so much. Thus I must get my writing flow again. That means writing more. Writing when I don't want to write, writing short texts, writing long texts. Writing in my head, writing with my fingers. It's good to keep in mind that all writing doesn't have to happen with pen and paper or with digital writing tools. Writing can be done in your head too. Of course, usually the idea is to get the writing out from your head, down somewhere to be read. But to keep on writing, use your head. When I said I haven't been writing that much, I didn't mention that I've been Tweeting on and posting my daily diary entries on Instagram. While they are shorter form than an actual blog post, they have kept me writing, at least a bit. That's also given me some ideas of what to write, resulting already to one post.
After a break it can be hard to remember why you blog. Without that reason it's hard to get back on blogging. For me the reasons are personal and professional. Blogging is both a creative outlet and a way to show and tell what I know and what I can do. Reminding myself about my reasons motivate me to make an effort of blogging. As I mentioned before, I have been reading a lot. Books, articles and then some. Reading what others have written is highly beneficial for any blogger. It's a good way to learn new writing styles, get ideas for blog posts, realise you are a shitty blogger and should either stop or to become better and whatnot. Of course there's a chance that reading too much works as an excuse not to write yourself. Then again, I don't like stressing out about blogging, so if I get an excuse not to do it, I'm gonna take that excuse. Anyways, reading is good. I think that was my point.
This post is part of my ways to get back in my blogging shape. Kind of making myself blog again. That works, it has worked before. Whatever you do to start blogging again after a break, give yourself time and space, but also give yourself a little push. Don't intimidate yourself with pushing too hard. Don't let yourself quit (if you don't really want or need to) without giving it a try.
Okay, let's do this!
