Twitter Tuesday: My story

Since I've been doing these Twitter Tuesdays for eleven weeks now (that's over two months!) I decided it's time to tell what's my story and approach on Tweeting.

I joined Twitter four years ago, in June 2008. Back then it was still sort of an upcoming service. There were quite little active users (compared to now) and the celebrities hadn't taken it over yet. Back then teens didn't write Tweets at all.

When I joined the world of microbloggin Jaiku was still kind of thriving. It had potential and it was extremely popular amongst tech folks and especially my fellow Finns. I never really liked Jaiku, it was too complexed for such a simple idea.

I did however like Twitter. It was simple. 140 characters and that's it. At that time hashtags were still something new and probably because of that I never got really into using them. Nowadays hashtags are a bit of a passé already, due to the overuse.

I joined Twitter out of curiosity. Since my blogging had been on hiatus for a couple of years already, I found it refreshing to post short messages about stuff I was interested in.

When I started I followed only those I knew from someplace else. My partner, obviously. A blogger I had been in contact with before. My COLOURlovers friends. A few others.

Now after four years I have a certain approach on Twitter. My Tweets contain links to stuff I find interesting, to my blog posts and Instagram photos. I also throw in random rants or try and get folks to fix how their blog images are shown on mobile.

I don't Tweet very often. Some marketing "guru" might say I Tweet too little. I just want to Tweet only the really interesting stuff and not everything I stumble upon. Lately I've been @replying somewhat more.

I don't like kissing ass and I still don't care much about hashtags. I don't follow everyone back in order to gain more followers. I do follow those whose Tweets I find interesting. And I get frustrated with those who are too noisy.
