Does lack of comments and likes mean no-one cares?

You wrote an update to Facebook about something important. It gained no likes and very little comments. Another update about something trivial, like getting a haircut, got a bunch of likes and comments. You think no-one cares about your important things, but everyone is into the trivial stuff. Does this sound familiar? Of course there's a point there: Trivial things, such as getting a haircut, are often easier to relate with. If your important thing isn't something that's important to the next guy, he's more like to ignore it. But there are other reasons why this happens. 1. They mis...

How your old blog posts could help and guide to read more

You have that awesome blog. You are very happy with how it looks and your content creation is on fire. And then a person wanders through search or link somewhere in and out of one of your older blog posts, never checking other posts. There are many reasons why they aren't staying around. Your blog post wasn't impressive enough or they didn't like the way the site looks. Perhaps the loading time was too long for them (people are very ADD with loading times these days) or the post didn't give the information they were looking for. There are other reasons too: Your blog is missing some ways t...

How to get more readers to your blog

In past year or so I have managed to multiply my blog's readership. The traffic is high up and the bounce rate isn't bad either. I previously told about 3 simple ways I added more traffic to my blog. Below is a couple of more for you to consider. You will notice how your own activity is a big part on luring the readers in. Get active now! Keep on blogging I know how depressing it is when people don't comment and the traffic is low and slow. At that point it's easy to give in and blog less and less. Don't do that! I've noticed that the blog readership goes significantly up every tim...

How to get rid of spam comments on Instagram

*Update: Instagram has changed it's user interface and architecture drastically since I wrote this spring 2013. See the most recent information at Dealing with Instagram spam.* Spam is a huge problem everywhere online. Including Instagram. To fight spam Instagram is censoring hashtags some more, some less offensive. However their methods are useless and efforts futile and more and more spam comments and spam accounts flood to the service. Many grammers I follow have decided to turn their accounts private to get rid of spam comments. I don't agree with this either and I never just...

The year three

It's been now three years since this blog was launched. As often 3 year olds do, the blog is now able to say it's own name, kick, draw a person with two to four body parts, climb, tell stories and write a bunch of capital letters. In times it gets a bit cranky and often it's rather stubborn. Nowadays there are a couple of thousand visitors here every month, the amount of visits growing slowly. In average visitors see one and a half pages and stick around a minute and a half (lots of halves there). During the past year the amount of visitors has multiplied. Happy! There are now over 1000...

Giving Mollom a try

*UPDATE March 2016: After almost three years of good service, a couple of weeks ago Mollom started to give timeouts and API errors to my site. The support gave me cold shoulder and, as a result, I removed Mollom from my site. I also asked them to remove my account. The support I got was terrible and they kept saying the service is working, even though it wasn't. At this time, I cannot recommend Mollom to anyone and urge you to look for other means of spam filtering/blocking.* After long time of contemplating I decided to try Mollom to replace the late and now broken TypePad AntiSpam. T...

Is Facebook charging you for sending messages?

OMG! Panic! Mayday! A big Finnish news outlet Kauppalehti decided to try and cause fire and mayhem by telling that Facebook is starting to charge it's users for sending messages. Reportedly this is true. To a point. Actually Facebook is testing a system where they will charge people for messaging to those who aren't their friends. And even this isn't the whole truth. Messages that might be spam and aren't coming from your friends do come through to your Facebook account. Accurately speaking they don't land in your Facebook inbox and you won't be notified of them. They go to your O...
