3 ways your blog fails

Is your blog built for success or does it fail terribly? Sure there's always someone who thinks your blog is awful, for a reason or another. Often the reasons are very subjective and you can discard them. However your blog may also fail in more general ways. When it does, the readers will scatter before you notice. If any of the following apply to your blog you need to fix it. Right now. The blog looks bad and is hard to use The design of your blog may seem like a minor detail of it. I mean, content is the king, the queen and everything in between. The content, king, queen or what ev...

Forget information, provide entertainment

What does Justin Bieber, Grumpy Cat and fashion blogs have in common? Yes, many things, but one most of all: They all provide entertainment. Usually the so called social media experts and content marketing professionals keep repeating: "If you want to succeed, provide information. If you want to succeed, provide help. If you want to succeed, provide something useful." It might be the case sometimes, yet it's also very much untrue. The real way to gain loads of Twitter followers, get people to like your page on Facebook and keep them coming to your blog is through entertainment. Bei...

Blogging during weekends

As you may have noticed from my last post (Edit: The post has since been removed), I'm taking part on #BlogFlash2013. All the bloggers (anyone, you included) are challenged to write one post a day around certain themes during March. But only through weekdays, not weekends. This got me thinking about blogging and weekends. I've noticed that weekends are quiet times at many blogs. Especially professional bloggers (those who are blogging for a business or are blogging to make money with it) tend to keep their blogs untouched from Friday night to Monday morning. Also Google Analytics show th...

Twitter Tuesday: How to download your Twitter archive

Twitter is very slowly rolling out the option to download and archive of all the Tweets you've made since signing up. Okay so first of all it appears that newer accounts on Twitter are getting their archives available sooner than oldies. At least for me my much newer and less used accounts (active since 2009 and 2011) have the archives already, whereas my main account (active since summer of 2008) hasn't got it yet. Here's what you need to do to get your archive: You must be logged in to Twitter. Go to your account Settings and scroll down the page. If your archive has been made avai...

Twitter Tuesday: 3 great Twitter qualities

There are many posts titled such as "5 bad Twitter habits" or "5 common business and marketing mistakes" and I decided to do something different this time. Here's a list of a couple of great qualities of someone actively using Twitter. I think three is a nice number, as it worked for the reasons for using Twitter too. Generosity - It's easy to be generous on Twitter. ReTweeting, @mentioning and @replying are the obvious (and working) choices. You can share your knowledge, give ideas and help out. To be truly generous you must give credit when credit is due, thank for ReTweets an...

Short blog posts are good

So very often this happens: You find a blog post about a subject and start to read it. Unfortunately the text is long as life and your time and patience is limited. You skim it through and if it doesn't get to the point soon and clearly enough, you'll just leave. Are you heading away right now? If this doesn't happen to you, then have you noticed how long (or rather short) times people stay at your blog? If you use for instance Google Analytics to track the visits on your site, you may see a trend of lots of people bouncing in and out like scared bunny rabbits. Although long and detailed...

Twitter Tuesday: A couple of words about Twitter headers

Twitter launched it's new profile design earlier this fall and now the new design is on for everyone. The design comes with header or cover images, on the top of each profile page. The header image is good for branding purposes, but it also works if you want to show your personal interests or skills. For instance my artist friend Cristina uses her own painting as a header. Another friend, Justin, who's a photographer with a family has his own family photo as a header. Toni, a movie geek on the other hand needs a bigger boat. When the new design was first launched, articles such a...
