Twitter Tuesday: Build a small and loyal audience of those who care
Imagine yourself in an event. A party or something. Lots of people have arrived. There are celebrities, people of influence, that person you admire, funny folks, chatty and quiet ones and a huge bunch of those who like to spill quotes all around. Most are talking at the same time. Everyone has so much to say. You mingle, you talk with some, you try and get their attention. Of course you are trying to impress that person you admire and perhaps to gain attention from a couple of those celebrities and people of influence. In times you are raising your voice, so that everyone would hear and noti...

Sometimes you run out of subjects to blog about. And sometimes it seems like everything has already been blogged. Maybe your blog feels like an abandoned ghost town. Check your site statistics Check which content on your blog is most popular according to the Google Analytics (or where ever your site's statistics are hiding). Why we really are so rude online
This morning I stumbled upon an interesting article about a subject that keeps coming up again and again. The question of why we are so rude online is being asked over and over again. For a good reason. If you try and find pretty much anything online it seems as if there's no decent people to give decent answers for those who are asking. A little while ago I googled (in Finnish) for a small drying rack. One of the first results was a conversation that in only a couple of replies had turned into a petty and personal fight. It was nuts. It's pretty clear what's going on: Online it's easi...
Twitter Tuesday: The number of followers doesn't equal authority
One of the common misconceptions of Twitter is seeing the number of followers as a proof of influence and status. It's not that easy. The follower count tends to be more or less funky. First of all there's a huge spammer, bot and other troll population on Twitter. They follow anyone in order to spam and scam those who fall into their honey traps. These followers are obviously dead weight. Not a sign of influence, but a sign of the amount of spammers on Twitter. (If you abuse hashtags you gain more and more spam followers. They love hashtags.) Unless they are celebrities of some sort, m...
Twitter Tuesday: Are you flooding your followers?
Looks like many Twitter users think a constant flood of Tweets is a good thing. Yeah, sure. You are more likely to get noticed (by your followers), if you Tweet more than once a day. However drowning your followers with a Tweet after Tweet is not good either. Too many updates, too many hashtags, too many ReTweets and too many Tweets containing nothing but Twitter handles of your "friends" will cause you to lose the attention. Not only your followers will leave you, many of them (the ones who don't want to be rude and unfollow) will be likely to at least turn off your ReTweet...
Twitter Tuesday: How "be ReTweetable to be ReTweeted" is useless advice?
"Want to be ReTweeted? Be ReTweetable!" What a great piece of advice! So simple, so right! Or is it? I've seen this piece of advice on my Twitter timeline countless times. Sometimes as a RT. Each and every time I want to ask what the person Tweeting this what they really mean by it. Most likely they wouldn't have an answer for me. Being ReTweetable isn't as easy as following some rules. A while back the ReTweets used to be made only as what are called Quote Tweets these days. They started (usually) with "RT" following the handle of the RT'd person and then their original Tweet copie...
