Twitter Tuesday: Hit-and-run followers
A person follows someone on Twitter. She most likely follows lots of people already. After following this someone she sits back and waits for them to follow back. If the person they followed won't do this, the person unfollows them as silently as she followed them in the first place. I call these hit-and-run followers. The sole reason they are following me is to gain more followers. They have no interest in the content I post (they don't see most or any of it) and they don't have interest in making a real connection with me. This sort of followers work in the assumption everyone will fo...

Do you need reasons why Twitter would be or continues to be a good platform for you? Here are a couple of those reasons. Getting connected Because so many different kinds of people from so many different parts of the world are using Twitter for many reasons of their own, there's pretty much everything for everyone. Spam comments will drive your traffic away
In time to time I stumble upon a blog with good content and plenty of comments. As I go and check the comments I soon notice most of them are pure spam. At that point I dash the blog without leaving a comment. Obviously the blog isn't worth it. You might think more comments is better. People coming to your blog look at the number of comment and think: "This is popular! This must be great!" They won't. It's okay if a non-valid comment here and there sneaks in, but it must vanish after a few moments. Spam causes you a technical problem too, but first and foremost it's bad for your image....
Twitter Tuesday: Being Human

It's rather easy be human (and not to be human) on Twitter. 8 ways NOT to be human on Twitter Share only quotes Share only links Don't reply or reply only when you someone mentions you first Automate and schedule Tweets ReTweet too much Mention (and list Twitter handles) without real reason Use a logo as a profile picture Repeat same Tweets over and over again 8 ways to be human on Twitter Share your own ideas and thoughts in your own wo...
Why it's good if your blog isn't very popular?
If your blog isn't very popular, there's probably one good thing that comes out of it. That good thing is you don't have to fight against as much comment spam as the more popular bloggers. Because there aren't that many backlinks to your blog and because your blog doesn't rank high on searches, the spammers are less likely to find it. It's true they are still finding it sometimes. Especially if your blog is hosted for instance by WordPress or Blogger (Google), there's more spam on the way. Yes, even for us less known ones there are those days when the spam bots are having a big party over...
Twitter Tuesday: 3 simple ways to get more followers
Getting more followers on Twitter requires effort, unless you are a celebrity of some sort. There are a couple of "magical" ways to get them, like following tons of folks and expecting them to follow you back. One of my favorite types are those who follow you and when you follow them back they unfollow you immediately. Buying followers is an excellent way not to get any real followers. Extensive use of hashtags is a great way to get spam accounts to follow you. Instead of taking these easy and highly not recommended ways, try working for it. Here are three simple, yet time taking, ways t...
