Music, sleep and volume
Have you ever fell asleep while listening music? You put the earphones on, lay down and close your eyes. Before you notice you are dreaming, the music still playing. Have you noticed if the music leaking into your dream is strangely loud? As if your resting brain has turned the volume up, even if it was quite low earlier. Music can have a relaxing effect. If I'm right kind of tired and block all the other noise (as well as the silence) with music I may all of a sudden find myself in a middle of a dream. Dream with a musical background. Like I did earlier today. This time I happened to notice...
Get into the water
It's a fine summer day and you are by a lake sitting on the dock. The water seems tempting. A bunch of kids are swimming and playing in the water. They make scary looking dives and try to drown each other in time to time. It looks all very intimidating. The kids have obviously been doing this, it's like walking or breathing for them. An athletic looking guy gives you an all knowing grin and makes a splash going in to the water. He's good at swimming. An elderly lady tells you the water is fine. She's got a thick skin, as if she's been swimming in ice all her life. Everyone else is there, in...
Giving a presentation
Yesterday I attended the second annual Data Highway event at Hyria, a multidisciplinary educational institution offering vocational education and training. The event was part of the school's student activity. At the event I gave a presentation, a quick and dirty introduction to social media in marketing. Frankly I'm not a very fluent or experienced presenter and I was really really nervous before my turn. I do know I'm not alone with this and giving presentations is something lots of us are afraid or nervous about. Therefore in following I'll list a couple of my personal notes about the su...
Piranha
Anna from Split Reel listed her 5 guilty pleasure movies. Inspired by this I decided to write down a few words about a movie we watched another day. The movie, Piranha (2010), goes to the category of I would never. Still I did, therefore I'm writing this. During a spring break prehistoric piranhas got loose to a lake and feeds on a bunch of idiots. Many of the idiots are hot babes with huge (fake) boobs. There's loads of blood and naked chicks. There, I summarized the whole movie. But here's the actual twist: The movie isn't that bad. It's actually funny and in times so terrible it t...
Farewell Miku
12 years ago a big yellow-orange cat started to hang around in the old barn at my home place. With a little digging we found out this cat had vanished from his old home, over 10 km from ours, and invited the owner to come and retrieve him. But the cat had made his decision: He wouldn't live there, he would want to move in with us. After several attempts to get him back to his old home we cave in. Miku was welcomed to our family. All these years Miku stayed healthy and happy, until this extremely cold winter took it's toll and he got ill. Today Miku had been put to sleep. Now that Eetu is ...
Tea story
In late 90's I spent a week in Germany. Due to some delays with our flights, we got there pretty late. Before our arrival to the destination I had always put milk into my tea. That night I was too tired to find out which container was filled with milk, so I just drank my tea black. During the week I consumed a lot of that tea. When my friend went to get herself a cup of coffee and me a cup of tea, she sometimes forgot which was which. That strong it was, black as coffee. After the week I was a bit addicted to this tea. Caffeine, I know. Ever since I've been looking for that tea, cause it was...
It's tricky
I like the word tricky. Maybe I don't like using it, but I like it when someone else says it. Especially when they use it for answering a (pun intended) tricky question. Just to fill in the gap and not having to say something like "I don't know". You know, using the word with a high-pitched tone. The "tri" higher and then letting the voice go down to "cky". "Well... It's tricky..." Stretching the words and hanging there to collect their minds. For some reason I like it.
