Music, sleep and volume

Have you ever fell asleep while listening music? You put the earphones on, lay down and close your eyes. Before you notice you are dreaming, the music still playing. Have you noticed if the music leaking into your dream is strangely loud? As if your resting brain has turned the volume up, even if it was quite low earlier.

Music can have a relaxing effect. If I'm right kind of tired and block all the other noise (as well as the silence) with music I may all of a sudden find myself in a middle of a dream. Dream with a musical background. Like I did earlier today. This time I happened to notice I was dreaming. As soon as I knew it was a dream the music playing loud in my ears started to fade. The moment I woke up it was back to it's normal volume. It was a funny, surreal feeling.
