Simple ways to multiply blog traffic

Something has happened. The traffic of this blog is up, multiplied. Over four times more visits than the same time last year. Even more pageviews. Almost six times more unique visitors. Double of new visits. And this has happened in a very short time.

What's different? Well, that's not an easy thing to answer. There are lots of smaller things in the play. In the following are a couple of things I've done and what you can do as well to get your blog traffic up.

Much more promotion

I have always been a bit shaky about marketing my own stuff. Yeah, it's silly, but I've been raised not to make too much noise about myself. But during the past months I have been more keen to Tweet, Pin and otherwise promote my blog posts.

Even though my marketing efforts are still rather timid, it's clear it works. Ever since I started to be "louder" about my when my blog has been updated, there has been more traffic (as well as more shares and likes and so forth).

Adding consistency

I had had some other weekly blog series before, but those hadn't been that consistent and I had lacked of inspiration of doing them every week. Those weekly series hadn't brought much interest to my blog and keeping them up felt too much work. So I gave them up.

During spring I started a new weekly series of Twitter Tuesdays, helpful information about Twitter for both new and old Tweeters. Additionally I started Weekly Wrapups, on which I (amongst other things) listed what I had blogged the previous week.

This way my blog is updated at least those couple of times a week for sure. And the people following the series know when to expect updates.
